Kiella Homebuilders is based in Temple, Texas and currently builds homes in Central Texas, primarily in the cities of Temple, Belton, and Killeen. Under the leadership of John Kiella, we've been building quality homes for over 20 years, at a rate of approximately 125 homes per year.
Our mission is to service the customer while providing the highest quality home at an affordable price.
John and Suzanne Kiella’s vision for their company has always been to build high quality affordable homes. Recognizing an important key to success is the focus on the homeowner, they adopted the Total Quality Management Team philosophy several years ago. This TQM team incorporates every Kiella employee and their ideas with a unified focus on a renewed commitment to the customer. The Kiella Group is dedicated to making the customer number one on the priority list.
All employees are encouraged to work together as a team. They are encouraged to familiarize themselves with all aspects of this company, not solely their own job. This helps create unity within the company and diversity within one’s own position. It also helps sufficiently cover work areas when a person is absent from their job for any reason.
John and Suzanne are firm believers that they take care of the staff that gets the job done. Diligent and hard workers are rewarded frequently, both monetarily and extracurricular. They enjoy giving back to the employees that have put their time, talents and efforts to work. Their thoughts and visions for the company’s future are expressed in quarterly staff meetings. These ideas are always open for discussion. John enjoys discussing the methods to his successful madness. Every employee is encouraged to get to know John and Suzanne on a more personal relationship to produce a stronger company.

Builder Story
Building homes has always been a part of John Kiella, owner and President of Kiella Homebuilders. He began with his father building homes at the young age of six. He learned every part of the homebuilding process from the ground up. By fourteen, he was building homes solo after school and during the summers. Shortly after graduating from Central Michigan University, John and his wife, Suzanne, relocated to Austin and worked for a major homebuilding corporation. It was here that he learned the business aspect of the homebuilding industry.
In 1987, John and Suzanne, along with partner, Ed McMurtry, broke away from the corporate world to start their own company, which created the name KAM Development, Inc. (Kiella and McMurty). Shortly after getting this company, McMurtry decided to explore other career paths. But John & Suzanne stayed in the game, maintaining the company under the same name and realizing a huge success in the Temple/Belton/Killeen area. In 1995, John and Suzanne bought out their major investment partner and restructured the company from a Sub-S Corporation to a Limited Partnership. The company was renamed to KAM Homebuilders, Ltd. From this new partnership, KAM divided itself into several divisions including John Kiella Signature Homes and John Kiella Homes.
In 1996, John Kiella Homes became fully operational in the Georgetown and Leander areas. This move into a new market proved very successful with three full time agents and one builder on staff, the John Kiella Homes – Capital Area division has built over 75 homes in three major communities in the area. This market remains open for the Kiella Group with some possibilities to begin development projects in the area.
In 1998, Kiella begin the steps of making another pivotal marketing move for his company. He developed a corporate-style identity as The Kiella Group. Under this umbrella, he formed four separate divisions that he felt had become his strengths in the building industry – Kiella Homebuilders, Kiella Commercial, Kiella Development and Kiella Investments.
Kiella Homebuilders is often referred to as the bread and butter division. After 17+ years, it has remained strong through all the ups and downs of the new home/construction industry. Kiella Homes will continue to be the primary focus of John Kiella’s company. New homes are an area John Kiella enjoys most and knows best.
Kiella Commercial isn’t really a new market, but with an abundance of projects knocking at the door, this division has taken off like wildfire. What started with one dentist office for a close acquaintance has now spurred a huge demand for more professional offices, including custom built offices for the medical, financial, legal and insurance industries.
Kiella Development is a crucial element for success to the Kiella Group. John learned early on that building good homes is a solid base, but to be able to offer a better product, you need to be in control of the neighborhood development as well. Through the Development division, Kiella has been able to established some quality neighborhoods that have been labeled “the place to live” in the Temple/Belton areas. Each development follows the strict EPA program for Storm Water Pollution Prevention. They are designed with high quality lifestyle in mind – limited entrance points to reduce through traffic, homeowners associations to maintain the neighborhood integrity, multiple cul-de-sac streets especially appealing to families and many neighborhoods will offer a private community park and/or swimming pool for relaxation and recreation.
Kiella Investments is really a “behind the scenes” division for The Kiella Group. By leveraging the financial success from the other divisions and re-investing into the company, Kiella has been able to branch out into different areas for investments. Kiella develops professional parks, and then leases several of the suites within the park. He has also been instrumental in the revitalization of the Downtown Temple area. Using Kiella Investments, he has renovated several downtown buildings and brought quality restaurants and services to Temple.
